The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) is a right-of-center think tank that promotes free markets and an active foreign policy role for the United States. AEI is considered one of the premier sources of neoconservative thought in the United States. AEI is the primary right-leaning rival to the Heritage Foundation, though AEI is generally considered more scholarly and Heritage more political. 3
