LIUNA Training and Education Fund is the training center of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), a construction industry labor union and a member the American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO). 3 LIUNA Training is also the recipient of grants from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), a division of the National Institutes of Health. These grants have gone to support LIUNA Training’s Hazardous Waste Worker Training Program (HWWTP) and its HAZMAT Disaster Preparedness Training Program (HDPTP) and to establish an Ebola/Infectious Disease (EID) program. 9

Funding

LIUNA Training receives grants from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) to support its Hazardous Waste Worker Training Program (HWWTP) and its HAZMAT Disaster Preparedness Training Program (HDPTP). Additionally, NIEHS made grants to LIUNA Training to establish an Ebola/Infectious Disease (EID) program, for training emergency response, demolition, construction, and environmental remediation workers. NIEHS intends to use the LINUA network of facilities for training government workers including National Guard personnel, janitorial staff in government buildings and airports, sanitation workers, and environmental services workers at hospitals. 3
