Jigsaw Productions is a media production company that develops documentary features and television programs. Several of the documentaries developed and produced by the company include The Bibi Files on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, The Dark Money Game on influence in American politics following the Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling in 2010, Agents of Chaos on the RussiaGate investigations during the first Trump administration, and Taxi to the Dark Side on enhanced interrogation techniques used during the George W. Jigsaw Productions is a media production company founded by documentarian and activist Alex Gibney. The production company has claimed to focus on developing projects on the “dark influences that shape America and the world.” ^{1  2  6} The company has also argued it is “committed to establishing, supporting, and cultivating a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.”  ⁷

Several notable documentaries produced and released by the company include The Bibi Files on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, ⁸ The Dark Money Game on influence in American politics following the U.S Supreme Court’s decision on Citizens United in 2010,  ⁹ Money Shot: The Pornhub Story on allegations of child exploitation materials being distributed on the adult-video site Pornhub, Totally Under Control on the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic during the first Trump administration, and Agents of Chaos on the RussiaGate investigations against President Donald Trump during his first term.  ^{10  5  11  3}

Jigsaw Productions has also produced several online podcasts including Search Engine, Bad Bets, The Line, and Lies We Tell. ¹²

According to Jigsaw Productions’ website, the company has received 55 Academy Award nominations as of 2025. These include a 2006 Oscar nomination in “Best Documentary Feature” for Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, about the decline of energy company Enron; and a 2008 win in “Best Documentary Feature” for Taxi to the Dark Side on enhanced interrogation techniques used during the George W. Bush administration.  ¹³

As of September 2025, Jigsaw Productions and its founder Alex Gibney are reportedly developing a documentary on Luigi Mangione, who is accused of and standing trial for the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City in December 2024.  ¹⁴

Leadership

Alex Gibney is the founder and president of Jigsaw Productions. Gibney is a documentarian and activist and has been involved with the production and release of several nominated and award-winning features including the 2005 documentary Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room and the 2007 film Taxi to the Dark Side. Gibney has also been nominated for four Emmy awards for the documentaries Laurel Canyon, The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley, Divide and Conquer, and City of Ghosts, and Going Clear: Scientology & the Prison of Belief; Going Clear won the Primetime Emmy Award for “Outstanding Directing for Nonfiction Programming” in 2015.  ¹⁵

 

Richard Perello is the chief operating officer and executive vice president of Jigsaw Productions. Perello is also the president of Cataland Films and an adjunct professor of graduate film and television at Columbia University. He also works as an adjunct professor at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts and is the head of Broken Lizard Industries. ^{1  16}
