The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars (known as the Wilson Center) is a Washington, D.C.-based Presidential Memorial that was established as a part of the Smithsonian Institution by an act of the U.S. Congress in 1968. The Wilson Center says it wants to maintain a forum for informed dialogue, research, study, discussion, and collaboration among individuals concerned with policy and scholarship in national and world affairs. 2
The Wilson Center receives 30 percent of its budget from the U.S. federal government. Since 2019, it has received at least $51,692,380 from the U.S. federal government. 2 The Wilson Center received tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service in 1979. 2 The center’s U.S. Civil Service positions are funded by annual appropriations from the U.S. Congress.
