Antifa–short for “anti-fascist” or “Anti-Fascist action”–is a decentralized left-wing extremist movement that opposes, sometimes through violence, groups it considers “fascist,” including democratic, center-right conservatives.6 Antifa’s protest methods are often violent, and local leaders admit they’re willing to physically attack anyone who employs violence against them or who “condones racism,” as the Antifa demonstrators define it.12 While groups that claim to align with the Antifa movement exist, such as the Rose City Antifa in Portland and the Atlanta Antifascists in Atlanta, these groups typically lack an organizational structure and are not beholden to guidelines of a larger group or individual. 14

Similarly, Antifa’s decentralized character makes it difficult to pin down what exactly it is they oppose. 17

Antifa International

Antifa International acts as an unofficial hub for the promotion of antifa aligned ideology as well as relevant news related to the movement. Antifa International has accounts on Instagram, Facebook, BlueSky, Substack, and YouTube. 20

Activities and Expectations

While the decentralized nature of Antifa makes it difficult to identify how they operate, an excerpt from a widely disseminated guide for new Antifa organizations published by It’s Going Down describes Antifa operations and expectations Antifa members are obliged to meet. 0){ let parent=divs[divs.length-1].parentNode; let footer=divs[divs.length-1]; delete divs[divs.length-1]; for (let i=2; i
