Target Majority NYC is a left-of-center New York City-based organizing and activist project of Swing Left and the Indivisible network that supports Democratic Party candidates in lower-profile swing-elections and engages in advocacy on issues including immigration, race, and the environment. 1 2
Background
Target Majority NYC began as a left-of-center organizing project of Swing Left, a Democratic Party-aligned fundraising and voter mobilization political action committee (PAC) established in January 2017 following the 2016 election of President Donald Trump to raise money for Democratic Party candidates in lower-profile elections throughout the country and facilitate volunteer support for those candidates’ campaigns. 3 2 1
In 2021, Target Majority NYC, though already a project of Swing Left, became, in addition, a “hybrid” project of the Indivisible network, which includes Indivisible Action, a “Carey Committee” PAC as well as the Indivisible Project, a national left-of-center coalition organization that like Swing Left was founded in the wake of the 2016 presidential election to support Democratic Party-aligned campaigns and candidates. 1 4 5
According to the organization’s profile page on the Swing Left website, Target Majority NYC is based in New York City and as of July 7, 2025 had over 11,000 members and has sponsored over 400 events. 5
Activities
According to Target Majority NYC’s Swing Left profile, from 2017 through 2020 the organization established itself as one of Swing Left’s most active groups, canvassing voters, fundraising, and facilitating campaign-volunteer travel arrangements, particularly in support of former U.S. Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-NJ). 6
Aside from supporting candidates, Target Majority NYC also engages in advocacy campaigns supporting left-of-center positions on issues including immigration, race, and the environment, as opposing the “Make America Great Again” movement of supporters of President Donald Trump. 5 6
Additionally, Target Majority NYC hosts regular activist-training sessions on advocacy activities such as calling elected officials and letter-writing. 5
In January 2026, a coalition of organizations and nonprofits organized a protest in New York City titled “No Wars, No Kings, No ICE,” to demonstrate against the Second Trump Administration, U.S Military Action in Venezuela, and operations conducted by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). These included the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) NYC, Rise and Resist, The People’s Forum, Federal Unionists Network, Jewish Voice for Peace NYC, Target Majority NYC, Common Defense, Indivisible Brooklyn, Our Time, 50501, and the Brooklyn Resisters. Other groups that took part in similar protests in the city around January 2026 include the national DSA organization, the Revolutionary Internationalist Youth from the City University of New York, the International Communist League, Indivisible, and Refuse Fascism. 7 8
Funding
Though the organization describes itself on its Facebook page as a “hybrid” group of Swing Left and Indivisible Action. As of July 7, 2025, donations to the group via ActBlue benefited the tax-exempt 501(c)(4) Indivisible Project rather than Indivisible Action. 6 1
Affiliates
According to Target Majority NYC’s Facebook page, the organization is affiliated with a variety of aligned organizations and groups such as the Center for Popular Democracy in Action (CPD-Action), the lobbying and electoral advocacy affiliate of the Center for Popular Democracy, as well as BirdDog Nation, an informal left-of-center activist network which has opposed Republican Party-led efforts at health care, tax reform, and the nomination of U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh. 9 6
