The Defend Democracy Now PAC is a Democratic-aligned political action committee. The PAC has little publicly available information on its website; however, the site does include a statement that “MAGA Republicans are putting our Democracy at risk,” and that it supports Democratic candidates in “flippable districts.”  1 2

The left-of-center media outlet Daily Kos has expressed concern that Defend Democracy Now PAC operated as a so-called “scam PAC” that funnels small-dollar contributions to networks of political consultants rather than candidates.  3

Background

In 2024, the Defend Democracy Now PAC reportedly sent text messages asking, “Will you endorse Kamala Harris?,” according to the Daily Kos. The Daily Kos article pointed out that the PAC’s website did not even mention then-Vice President Harris and was unaffiliated with her campaign, expressing concern that Defend Democracy Now PAC and others had the potential to “funnel small-dollar donations into a network of consultants that has little obvious benefit to electing Democratic lawmakers.” The article noted that the Harris campaign had released a statement warning of what it deemed to be “financial scam” PACs that used the then-Vice President’s name to fundraise saying, “The only committees raising money directly for our campaign are Harris for President, Harris Victory Fund, and Harris Action Fund.”  4

As of 2025, the listed treasurer of the PAC was Janica Kyriacopoulos, who is the founder and co-owner of Political Compliance Management Services, a Democratic-aligned political accounting firm.  1  5

Funding

From January 2025 to the end of October 2025, the Federal Election Commission (FEC) listed the Defend Democracy Now PAC’s total federal receipts at $747,752.56 and its total federal disbursements at $704,163.39. The PAC’s ending cash on hand was reported to be $337,559.00.  1

In 2025, the Defend Democracy Now PAC disbursed $230,000 to the New Democratic Coalition Action Fund with the description “Transfer to Affiliate,” according to the FEC’s data for the 2026 spending cycle. Janica Kyriacopoulos, the treasurer for the Defend Democracy Now PAC, was listed as the recipient of donations to the New Democratic Coalition Action Fund according to the group’s donation page. For much of 2025, the New Democratic Coalition Action Fund was paying $3,000 at monthly intervals to Kyriacopoulos’s Political Compliance Management Services for accounting services.  6  7  8

Also in 2025, the Defend Democracy Now PAC reported a $20,000 disbursement to Stop the Chaos PAC, according to FEC data. The PAC has little public information on its website, besides claiming to oppose “MAGA Chaos” and seeking to flip the House of Representatives to a Democratic majority. Kyriacopoulos is the listed treasurer of the Stop the Chaos PAC, according to the FEC.  6  9  10

In the 2024 spending cycle, the largest recipient of expenditures from the Defend Democracy Now PAC was Momentum Campaigns, a “Latino- and woman-owned” Democrat-aligned fundraising firm. In the 2024 cycle, the PAC’s expenditures with the firm totaled $309,815, according to OpenSecrets data. The Stop the Chaos PAC and the New Democratic Coalition Action Fund also reported expenditures to the firm in 2025, according to the FEC, but at much smaller amounts than the Defend Democracy Now PAC.  11  12  13  14
