Arizona Jobs with Justice is the Arizona-based chapter of the left-of-center advocacy group Jobs with Justice, a labor union-aligned organizing group that hosts protests and supports union organizing activities in support of left-of-center policy priorities. Arizona Jobs with Justice has opposed manufacturing facility construction in Arizona, including opposition to an Intel chip manufacturing plant, and has opposed Republican-led immigration policies in the state, calling such policy proposals “racist.” The group has aligned with the AFL-CIO and local unions, including IBEW Local 570. 1 2 3 3
Background
Arizona Jobs with Justice is the Arizona-based chapter of Jobs with Justice, a national coalition of worker centers and left-wing advocacy groups formed in 1987 that operates numerous local chapters including under other independent brands like the Alliance for a Greater New York. In the 2010s, JWJ was heavily involved in supporting Fight for $15 campaigns across the country and has supported many labor union-backed campaigns and efforts. 4 5 3
Jobs with Justice is closely tied to the AFL-CIO, the large left-of-center labor union federation that is a notable force in Democratic politics, and the group’s Phoenix chapter meets monthly at the Arizona AFL-CIO offices. The group states that its meetings are open to union members, community partners, and the public. 6
Activity
Arizona Jobs with Justice has supported AFL-CIO events, including participating in the AFL-CIO’s 2025 “Better with a Union” bus tour stop in Tucson in partnership with IBEW Local 570, a local affiliate of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, stating that “Our incredible panelists spoke about the real-life impact of devastating Medicaid cuts, how our broken immigration system is failing so many, and why joining a union is one of the most powerful steps we can take to fight back.” 3
The group is also active in opposing Republican-supported immigration policy, and used far-left rhetoric to oppose the 2024 Proposition 314 in Arizona that would allow local police to detain individuals who are suspected of crossing the border illegally and cannot prove citizenship. The group organized protests against Proposition 314 in partnership with the National Day Laborers Organizing Network, Tucson’s Stop the Hate Collective, the Arizona Education Association, the AFL-CIO, and Democratic elected officials including Tucson Mayor Regina Romero (D). 2
In 2024, Arizona Jobs with Justice supported a far-left U.S. Supreme Court reorganization proposed by then-President Joe Biden, stating that the court “has been captured by dangerous right-wing interests.” In a letter to Arizona’s congressional delegation, 15 left-wing groups including Arizona Jobs with Justice “urged support for the court reforms that President Joe Biden proposed in July. Biden wants Congress to pass 18-year term limits for justices, with a president appointing a new justice every two years, and to approve enforceable conduct and ethics rules that would require disclosure of gifts, bar public political activity and ensure recusal from cases where a justice or their spouse has a financial or political stake.” 7
